The Spanish artist Teresa Riba primarily works in bronze. With the possibilities of this material, she manages to imbue her sculptures with extraordinary expressiveness. The vitality and movement of the sculptures arise from the irregular surface texture and the patina of the material. Additionally, she paints parts of the figures, giving them even more individual expression.
She has titled her new series “Tornem-hi,” which translates to “Let’s go” in English. It is primarily the depiction of the postures, facial expressions, gestures, and thoughts of teenagers and children that interest Riba. In this new series of works, she aims to capture a specific moment in the lives of these young people, when they are in the midst of making an important decision but are not entirely sure and hesitate, whether to take a step forward, stand still, or even step back.
In her sculpture group “Comunicacio?,” she depicts communication via mobile phone between teenagers who stand next to each other but are isolated from one another. Teresa Riba addresses both the lack of real communication among young people and the increasingly strong interconnection of people with each other.
