VORTEX

VORTEX - Matthias Geisler, Thomas Kühnapfel

In their joint exhibition, Matthias Geisler and Thomas Kühnapfel unite two artistic positions that differ in their materiality and approach, but meet in their conceptual approach. Matthias Geisler (born 1985 in Leipzig) studied illustration at Camberwell College of Arts in London (2009-2010) and completed his diploma in graphic design at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig (HGB) under Prof. Thomas Müller in 2015. Thomas Kühnapfel (born 1966 in Rees on the Lower Rhine) studied sculpture at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Tony Cragg, who made him his master student. His works have recently been exhibited at ART Basel Miami Beach, Volta 11 Basel and Museum Kurhaus Kleve, among others. The title of the exhibition VORTEX symbolizes the tension between order and dissolution, which is expressed both in Matthias Geisler’s works and in Thomas Kühnapfel’s sculptures.
