The impressiveness of the realistic painting and sculpture is not only the result of a very intensive and elaborate examination of the complex techniques of traditional painting, but also results from a profound knowledge of the formal languages and artistic approaches of past eras and the constant observation of one’s own immediate surroundings.
The subjective view of the artists, Blanca Amorós, Johanna Schelle, Brigitte Stenzel and Sarah Zagefka, of the supposed reality depicted, raises the question of a subject’s relationship to their reality, of their own and others’ perception and ultimately of the reproducibility and interpretability of reality, which remains an eternal mystery to us.
