Torsten Mühlbach – Apocalypse and other crazy things

“The world is changing…” – from Lord of the Rings

“Art is a weapon…” – from the founding manifesto of the “Asso” (The Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists of Germany (ARBKD) from 1930 – 1933 in Dresden)

Torsten Mühlbach is a kind of rebel of art, his art wants to shake up, offend, provoke, incite and excite! In the form of material paintings, drawings, collages as well as sculptures and installations, he stages these offensively as an artistic commentary on current world references.

In doing so, he is influenced by a mixture of comic, pop, science fiction and trash culture as well as the art history, media and politics that surround him:

Right-wing populist efforts worldwide | plastic carpets in the world’s oceans | refugees all over the world | Hollywood shows superheroes | crosses in Bavarian authorities | security mania | bee deaths | rearmament | deforestation for Nutella | Trump | education | consumer mania | high culture

In his words, it’s trash pop / pop trash to make you smile and smile until it gets stuck in your throat – colorful and beautiful as the world is…
