Marmeladenglasmomente – Anja Nürnberg

“Do you know what I sometimes imagine? That you could just put such a good time in a jam jar. And when you’re unhappy, you just open the lid and sniff it a little.

Cornelia Funke, The Wild Hens, Hamburg 1996, p. 186

“Anja Nürnberg’s large-format and colorful paintings are like jam jars. In addition to the visible aspects of special moments, they also capture their moods – sometimes you even think you can hear the sounds or smell or taste the moment. What’s more, the jam can also be enjoyed by those who didn’t make it themselves, because the cook aka painter succeeds in bringing the viewer’s own memories back to life. The dining table, which bears the traces of a convivial get-together in a large group, the excerpt-like depiction of a landscape with a rowing boat, a path leading into a coniferous forest, a woman and a child processing fruit or a washing line with waving white sheets – the magic of the everyday and of the moment, which is perceived by those who have the ability to go through life with an open mind and with gratitude for the small moments of happiness.”
Art historian Anke Dornbach

The exhibition ‘Marmalade jar moments’ takes its title from the book of the same name by Cornelia Funke and refers to the magical, everyday moments that can be captured in a jam jar. This idea is reflected in Anja Nürnberg’s works, which depict scenes from everyday life with a special emotional depth and colourfulness. From cosy dining tables to picturesque landscapes and intimate family scenes, she captures the fleeting moments of life and makes them tangible and tangible for the viewer.

The artist, who studied art at the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy in Halle, creates pictorial fields like her great role models H. Matisse and P. Bonnard, which give rise to an oscillating colour space. With her ‘colourful refuges’, the artist wants to ‘invite you to linger and enjoy passionate moments of pleasure’. She has also created her ‘character chairs’ from ceramic – for her, chairs symbolise a place to linger, be together and pause as a motif in her paintings as well as an object. And surely everyone has that one special chair and place in their home?
