The Danish artist Mads Rafte Hein (*1977) devotes his painterly work to the depiction of magnificent interiors, which he creates in his characteristic, opulent and colorful style. In these pictorial worlds, which are interspersed with lavish decorations and still lifes, the viewer encounters mythological figures staged as decorative sculptures and bric-a-brac. Whether in the depictions of ancient gods on amphorae or in the porcelain figurines of classical mythology, Hein addresses the omnipresence of mythological narratives in Western culture. He often plays with the banalization of these narratives and invites the viewer to reflect humorously on their trivial reception.

This exhibition is the artist’s first solo show in Germany and is curated by art historian Tinatin Ghughunishvili-Brück
