The artist Mads Rafte Hein (born 1977) lives and works in Roskilde, Denmark. He has a degree in graphic design from the Copenhagen University of Technology, specializing in graphic design. He has also been taught by renowned artists such as: Grethe Bagge, Bjørn Poulsen, Peter Carlsen and Peter Nansen Scherfig. He has exhibited in Germany, Taiwan, Austria and Sweden and has participated in numerous exhibitions in Denmark, including the spring exhibition in Charlottenborg three times and the artists’ fall exhibition in Den Frie, Copenhagen. His works can be found in numerous private collections and art associations.
In his painterly work, he devoted himself to the depiction of magnificent interiors, which he designed in his characteristic, opulent and colorful style. In these pictorial worlds, which are interspersed with lavish decorations and still lifes, the viewer encounters mythological figures staged as decorative sculptures and bric-a-brac. Be it in the depictions of ancient gods on amphorae or in the porcelain figures of classical mythology – Hein thematizes the omnipresence of mythological narratives in Western culture. He often plays with the banalization of these narratives and invites the viewer to reflect humorously on their trivial reception.
This exhibition is the artist’s first solo show in Germany and is curated by art historian Tinatin Ghughunishvili-Brück
