The painter Rainer Gross (*1951) and the designer Wolfgang Laubersheimer (*1955), Director of the Cologne International School of Design (formerly FH), have known each other since the 1980s and see art and design as two inspiring genres that enter into an exciting and interesting interaction in this joint exhibition.
Wolfgang Laubersheimer was a co-founder of the “Pentagon” group in 1985, which stood for informal design. Wolfgang Laubersheimer’s design objects are advertisements for ideas and evoke emotions. His designs are humorously ironic, serious and they illuminate the enigmatic poetry of his work.
Rainer Gross has lived in New York since 1973 and combines his European roots with the vibrancy of the American metropolis in his paintings. His Contact Paintings, which are created by pressing two canvases on top of each other, have achieved particular international renown. The result is a fascinating play with the presence and absence of the images.
