“Dreistigkeiten – Mehr Dioptrien bringen uns auch nicht weiter” Group exhibition with Sebastian Herzau, Torsten Mühlbach and Jessi Strixner

In this exhibition, Sebastian Herzau, Torsten Mühlbach and Jessi Strixner invite us to explore the subtleties of their works more closely and to discover the humorous, subtle and also provocative elements. They combine their creative forces to surprise us and question the many facets of reality.

“I think every day that there is so much in the world that needs to be painted,” says Sebastian Herzau, whose works reveal his experimental curiosity and create artistic illusions in the sense of trompe-l’œil painting and ambiguous visual worlds.

Sculptor Jessi Strixner achieves this in an impressive way with her wooden objects, which puzzle us. Hard material such as wood suddenly appears soft and looks deceptively real, like a T-shirt, a pair of socks or a bag of chips.

And for the artist Torsten Mühlbach, one thing is clear: “Art is not a privilege, but a staple that everyone should need and have at their disposal. His work cannot be pigeonholed. He uses his art as a mouthpiece and commentary on current topics from the media, society and politics, which are characterised by references to comics, pop culture, trash culture and the history of art and religion, among others, in order to force us to take a closer look and take a stand.

The exhibition invites us to sharpen our perception and broaden our perspective. More dioptres may sharpen our gaze, but they won’t take us any further – only the willingness to really look will lead us to realisation and amazement.
