“In my pictures, I revisit some themes again and again, such as the supposed and the familiar, the thin line between tragedy and comedy, the relationship between figure and background and the tipping from narrowness to expanse. My works are created in intertwined processes in which rough turns are also permitted and details become content. Narrative ideas of heterogeneity and fragmentation are made visible through the interweaving, overlapping and repetition of different elements. I have a particular interest in sensibilities, language and perception. The formal language in my works is sometimes more abstract and sometimes more representational, but I am always concerned with how color surfaces and structures condition and react to each other. In doing so, I work closely with the material properties and explicitly incorporate them into the picture.
Texture is an essential element of my paintings, and surfaces are just as important as what is painted. The tactile properties of plaster and fabric, for example, are incorporated in the same way as the type of brushstroke. They in turn create volume, folds or resistances that are reflected in the painting. For me, it is essential that the chosen materiality merges with the content of the picture, so that something unique emerges, form and depicted object react to each other and go beyond the visible in their connection. “
