Alexander Gegia conveys the spirit of the times through his work. Like headlines, his pictures remain in the recipient’s memory. They are pictures that are essential in the way they are presented. The content of his compositions is enhanced by focusing on the subject or protagonist of the picture, thus transforming the detail into an overall picture, a cover picture, so to speak, of the story experienced.
At the same time, however, this focus alienates and questions the obvious. The unusual combination of minimalism with the almost photorealistic style of reproduction, which Alexander Gegia masters so masterfully, in no way pushes the clear and rich colors of his works into the background.
This clarity and a certain transparent nature of his works ensure that the boundaries between the viewer and the work dissolve. The fiction – on the canvas of this artist – is so convincing and intense that we have the feeling of learning to see anew in the face of these works.
